There are varieties of myths that revolve around the lower back pain treatment procedures. Dr. Kirnjot Singh is of the opinion that these myths have been created by the patients themselves, who have little idea about the treatment methodologies involved in the lower back pain treatments. Dr. Kirnjot Singh discusses some of the common myths associated with lower back pain treatment methods.
Myth 1- Dr. Kirnjot Singh finds that there’s a myth among the patients suffering from lower back pain about the imaging diagnostic procedures. Dr. Kirnjot Singh says that patients believe that lower back pain can be easily diagnosed by X-ray images, CT and MRI scans respectively.
Reality – Dr. Kirnjot Singh suggests though imaging diagnosis leaves a good picture of patient’s spine condition before an ortho surgeon, but certainly, not even the best picture can reveal good diagnostic methods to treat the lower back pain effectively.
Myth 2- The only treatment for herniated or ruptured disk is surgery.
Reality – Dr. Kirnjot Singh opines that in over 70% of the spine related cases, it is very difficult to correctly diagnose the reason of the pain and make an ortho surgeon confidently say that surgery is the only need for the patient. In fact, Dr. Kirnjot Singh finds that surgery should be taken as the last resort.
